Welcome to “We’re All In This Together.” The acronym for “We’re All In This Together” is W.A.I.T.T. House, Inc.
“We’re All In This Together” or WAITT House was established in 1979-1980 by the Sisters of Charity, a group of educators who have been working in Roxbury for 120 years, along with community residents as a non-sectarian, non-profit community based organization.
WAITT House brings people from various races, languages, and culture together in a way that empowers them with the education, skills, and support they need to improve the conditions in their lives and in their neighborhoods.
Our educational programs vary by need and skill. We provide adult literacy services to beginner readers and writers as well as provide advanced reading, writing, computer, and math classes to those who possess their high school credentials and would like to transition to college, skills training program or gainful employment.
WAITT House’s classes and services provide people with the educational means and support to further their education, earn an adult high school diploma, properly transition to college, enter gainful employment, develop their computer skills, strengthen the educational opportunities for their families, become student leaders and interns as well as become civically engaged in their communities.
Our mission allows WAITT House to draw adult learners from all walks of life. Adult learners can be native born to the United States or born in any part of the world. The adult learners can range from the age of 21 to 121.
We also serve adults who are English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). WAITT House is a bridge for those ESOL learners who speak English, yet they need their high school credentials or need to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. WAITT House provides the transitional services for ESOL learners to advance in Adult Basic Education, Adult Diploma, College, Employment, and Skills Training programs. We call this program the ESOL/ABE Connection.
In addition to the standard Adult Basic Education programs, WAITT House continues to improve and create opportunities for the adult learner through the following programs: Career Awareness, Financial Literacy, Computer Literacy and the Student Advisory Council.
WAITT House cultivates professional development, ABE career opportunities, and leadership skills through the Student Internship Program, the Focus Group Facilitation Training of the Roxbury Adult Literacy Coalition (RALC)., the A-AMEN Plus Project, which expands educational and employment opportunities for African-American men; and W.O.W. (Women of WAITT) its objective is to access resources for adult learners and promote women initiatives.
